Explained
What is a Process Experience Platform?
A Process Experience Platform is software that turns process management into something people experience in their daily work: they understand processes, take ownership of them and use process knowledge when they act. It is built for all employees, not only for BPM experts. RocketBPM is built as such a platform.
The short answer
A Process Experience Platform helps an organization create a shared understanding of how work gets done. Teams map their processes together, make roles and responsibilities visible and keep the result close to everyday work, so that process knowledge is used instead of archived.
RocketBPM uses the term for exactly this idea: process management that is simple, collaborative and made for everyone. The focus is not on the most complete model, but on whether the people who work with a process actually understand it and can help shape it.
Why process management often stays with experts
In many organizations, processes get documented, but they rarely become part of everyday work. Models can be technically correct and still be too complex for the people who need to understand and use them.
- Too much distance: process knowledge is limited to expert teams instead of being accessible to the whole organization.
- Low involvement: people are expected to work according to processes they were barely involved in developing.
- Documentation without adoption: repositories fill up with diagrams, while the real work happens somewhere else.
What makes a platform a “process experience” platform
RocketBPM is designed around six principles that describe what a good process experience looks like:
- Easy to understand: processes read like a clear picture, not like a specification.
- Reduced to the essentials: roles, activities, decisions and clear connections, nothing more than needed.
- A few clicks to your goal: people reach the process they need quickly.
- Shape it together: processes are created with the people who work in them.
- Take ownership together: responsibilities are visible to everyone involved.
- Made for real process conversations: the model is the basis for talking about how work actually happens.
From co-creating to improving: four steps
The approach behind RocketBPM follows four steps that build on each other.
- Co-create: map processes together in a language everyone understands.
- Understand: make visible how work really gets done across roles, teams and responsibilities.
- Own: make process ownership and responsibilities visible to everyone involved.
- Improve: use the shared understanding as the basis for better decisions and continuous improvement.
How it differs from classic BPM tools
Classic BPM tools are often built for experts who model processes in detail. That is valuable when a process has to be specified precisely, analyzed or automated. A Process Experience Platform has a different purpose: communication, participation and working on the process together.
RocketBPM therefore does not replace BPMN. It uses the reduced New Process Notation with roles, activities, decisions and clear connections. When individual processes call for deeper analysis or automation, they can be transferred to BPMN 2.0 and processed further there.
- BPMN 2.0: designed for detailed, precise process modeling; suited to analysis, technical specification and automation.
- New Process Notation in RocketBPM: designed for shared process understanding; suited to communication, participation and working on the process together.
What this looks like in RocketBPM
In RocketBPM, processes live in a Process World: a connected process landscape that grows from process maps and swimlane models, without having to file and link models by hand. Every process shows its responsible roles with contact details, and favorites and a personal start page bring the relevant processes within reach.
The Energy Meter adds a perspective that classic process management rarely covers. Instead of looking only at time, cost and quality, it shows how work feels for people: which activities give energy, and which drain it.
Process experience and AI
AI can only support processes effectively when it is clear how work gets done, who is accountable and what the process is meant to achieve. A shared, understandable process picture is the foundation for that. In short: no AI without process, and no process without purpose.
Who a Process Experience Platform is for
It is for organizations of any size and industry, from a first step into process management to actively managing established processes. Typical roles:
- CPOs and process management teams building and rolling out the BPM approach, process architecture and tool
- Process owners, process architects and process managers
- Quality management
- Operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Transformation and organizational development
- Executives, managing directors and founders
Who is behind RocketBPM
RocketBPM is developed by MKBurg Process Experiences GmbH in Hamburg, Germany. The founder, Mirko Kloppenburg, looks back on more than 20 years of BPM practice. That practice led to New Process, the human-centric BPM approach on which RocketBPM is methodically built.
Questions about the Process Experience Platform
What is a Process Experience Platform?
Software that makes process management understandable and usable for all employees: people map processes together, see responsibilities and use process knowledge in everyday work. RocketBPM is built as such a platform.
How is it different from a BPM suite?
A BPM suite is typically aimed at experts who model, analyze or automate processes in detail. A Process Experience Platform focuses on shared understanding, participation and ownership, so that as many people as possible can understand and shape processes.
Does RocketBPM replace BPMN?
No. RocketBPM uses the reduced New Process Notation for shared understanding. When individual processes call for deeper analysis or automation, they can be transferred to BPMN 2.0 and processed further there.
Who should use it?
Organizations of any size and industry, for example process management teams, process owners, quality management, operational excellence, transformation and organizational development, and executives.
